A busy few days.

Sorry for the lack of posts but things have been a bit busy. I finished work, so decided to re-decorate my bedroom.

My mum went away so I put Oscar into her room and moved some of my furniture into his to make painting easier.  I bought some new wallpaper for the chimney breast wall.

After trying a few tester pots, pale green was the best colour for both the wallpaper and bedding.

The painting was a nightmare, firstly the lilac underneath shone through the first and second coats, then when going to buy another tin of paint my car broke down and I had to be rescued

and buy a new battery for the car. So three days of painting and 2 tins of paint later it was finished, and looks much better and brighter. It also gave me the opportunity to have a clear out of pictures, ornaments and general junk I’ve kept just because.

I also decided to move the bed and some of the furniture, although I would like some new furniture eventually.

a day in my life …. photo diary

A busy but productive mother/daughter day …..

Last Month

December came and went so fast, I realised whilst updating the list that I didn’t tell you any of the fun we had before, during or after Christmas.

My birthday is in December so for a treat, Oscar and I, went to Liverpool for the day. We went ice skating and then had 3 goes on the ice slide, which was hilarious, and yet again I fell over, I need to start drinking alcohol ! Afterwards we had a lovely meal.

We had a visit to craft fair at Birkenhead Priory, not somewhere I’ve ever visited before but we will return for a proper look around as it was beautiful, if a little cold and Oscar was spooked by the darkness inside, I bought some lovely handmade presents. Maybe a summer visit next time.

Christmas eve we went bowling, and even though I got 3 strikes Oscar still won, I’m sure the machine was broken ! The usual excitement and nerves kicked in waiting for Santa to arrive. Thankfully he did.

Followed by a quiet few days whist Oscar was away with his dad, which gave me some reading and sewing time.

New years eve he was home, just the two of us so it was a quiet one. We made his 3d jigsaw (thankfully all the pieces are numbered), played games and did some reading whilst waiting for midnight and the fireworks. A lovely end to a not so pleasant year.

Life and things …

Things have been a bit crazy for the last few weeks, obviously we had the wedding, then the shock of a job offer at the start of the half term holidays. Thankfully it helped take some of the pressure off and lifted everyone’s spirits.

Half term was a mixture of homework and fun days.

We started with a cinema day on Monday, 2 films, once again a freebie from Odeon, and lovely comfortable seats too. A lovely mum and son day.

Tuesday was another interview day for me, Oscar had an easy day, Wednesday we caught up on homework and had a minecraft building session.

Thursday we changed our plans a few times, we were supposed to be bowling but I forgot to book the lane and when we got there it was full of pensioners. We didn’t fancy hanging around for an hour so went to Spaceport at Seacombe ferry. We haven’t been here for a long time, although not much has changed, it was very interesting and the planetarium/space dome theatre was really good.

Friday we spent the day in Liverpool, first stop was the world museum to see the animal mummies exhibition. A quick bite to eat then a walk down to the Albert dock and Tate Liverpool to make our own piece of art and see the famous Tracey Emin ‘bed’, Oscar said ‘she’s very unhealthy because she drinks too much alcohol and smokes’ To be fair it was a pretty fair statement from what we could see.

The weekend was tidying bedrooms, sorting clothes and uniform, kits and generally getting ready for school and work !!

Monday was my first day, only a few hours but so much to do and learn. It went very quickly, everyone was lovely but I don’t think I’ll ever learn all the names or the computer system.

Today seemed quiet still waiting for all my required authorisations to come through but I think tomorrow I might be let lose on real people and the computers, thankfully with a shadow and lots of support.

I can honestly say I am enjoying being back doing something useful, even if it’s only a few short hours a week, fingers crossed the hours increase in the near future.

I’m back (I think)

Sorry for the silence but my days and weeks have consisted of the same old boring nothingness. They essentially went like this…

Alarm goes off at 6.50am, get up, wake and feed child, take him to school, sit at computer applying for jobs, return to school to collect child, homework, food, bathe, bed. Rinse and repeat. Dull, dreary and mind numbing.

Well it was until last week, finally a change from the normal routine and very much needed boost. And what was this change, my brothers wedding.

A wonderful, fabulously clear, bright day with a stunning bride and a very handsome bridegroom. Surrounded by family from Yorkshire, Lancashire, Liverpool, Wirral and beyond, they made their vows and we partied hard. It was a much needed jolt from the day to day routine and a catch up with family, old and new. An amazing day with lovely people and I can now officially call her my sister-in-law (even though I have for a long time already), the only sadness was my missing plus one, but wherever Phil may be I know he would be very happy for the happy couple.

Anyway, this week saw even more changes and bright horizons, I finally have a job !! Woo hoo, I went for an interview on Monday and got a phone call an hour or so later to offer me the position and start next week. It’s a part-time position so it will still allow me time with Oscar and some of the school drop-offs/collections, it has meant a re-jig of some after school activities but nothing that can’t be altered and a happier, less stressed out mum for Oscar.

The last 10 days has been a big shake-up and change that I needed.

Onward and upwards.

L is for …

Liverpool, my hometown, it’s a big city with lots of history and the most museums/galleries outside of London. It is a city filled with culture and heritage and the Liverpool waterfront is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Liverpool has two cathedrals at either end of Hope street, both are beautiful architectural buildings and very different, well worth a visit.

Liverpool is a famous music city and is the world capital of pop, with more number ones than any other city.

It is home to many sports, including two premiership football teams, horse-racing, rugby, golf, plus lots more.

It’s an easily accessible city as the main train line, coach station and bus station are right in the centre and easy walking distance to many places.

Liverpool is a very family-friendly city and most galleries and museums have free activities/things to do for kids.

There are many theatres and comedy clubs with something for everyone.

It also has coastline and very clean sandy beaches, it is full of parks and green areas too.

And not to be left out, a trip on the famous ‘ferry across the Mersey’

The ‘dazzle ship’ ferry looking across to Birkenhead.

I love my city, come and explore and you will love it too.

weekly round up # 5

This might be the last weekly round up for a little while as I’ve something else in mind and I might struggle to do everything.

This week has been a busy but fairly productive one.

Monday I spent the morning sorting my c.v. and applying for a couple of jobs, then had an interview. It was good experience, however it wasn’t a permanent position as advertised only a few months to cover maternity leave.

Tuesday I spent the day at a ‘job fair’ in St George’s Hall in Liverpool, to be honest it wasn’t really much good as most of it was training courses and apprenticeships, but I did come away with some new job sites to check and saw some old colleagues hard at work. Also met up with a couple of my fellow unemployed colleagues and had lunch and a quick look around the shops.

Wednesday was a form filling job application day again, also checked the new sites from Tuesday and got a phone call to arrange a telephone interview.

Thursday I decided to have a break from the computer and helped switch our energy supplier and tv/phone, it was funny to watch my mum have an argument with an automated phone system which actually hung up on her. I watched a couple of films and knitted, the break from forms was very welcome. I did however check my emails and reply to one job advert. The football was back on again and as usual a divided household, Oscar supporting Portugal and Eric supporting Poland.

Friday I took mum out shopping, her car was off the road so we had a mother/daughter day buying much needed essentials (clothes mostly). Oscar and I enjoyed the Wales match however hugging a child holding a handful of pringles is not a good idea, they shatter into a million pieces and go EVERYWHERE. Everyone was supporting Wales so a happy house all round.

Saturday was an at home day, Oscar and I played games, did homework and watched more football, Italy v Germany this time, once again a divided house. At least some happy faces.

Sunday it finally stopped raining and I made it back to the allotment…. it’s been a few weeks and the warm weather and rain isn’t helping as the nettles and bindweed are huge. We spent an hour or so but couldn’t use the brush cutter and manual tools didn’t make much of a dent so decided to call it a day. The weather forecast for the coming week is dry so I’m going to hire one for a week and really get stuck in, the job hunting can take a back seat. Another good match Iceland v France, I would have loved Iceland to win but always thought France would do it. I think a lot more teams (and people) need the Icelandic spirit, no matter how far behind they got they never stopped trying until the final whistle. Iceland are my team of the tournament for spirit and determination.

So more allotment blogs to follow, hopefully without weeds plus my latest idea, borrowed from another blogger but with a twist.

Have a good week folks, fingers crossed the sun shines and rain stays away.
